Gran Turismo Movie Features Spice Girls’ Djimon Hounsou and Geri Halliwell-Horner – The Hollywood Reporter
Djimon Hounsou, currently on screen with black adamand former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell-Horner have joined the cast of Gran TurismoSony Pictures and PlayStation Productions present the adaptation of the best-selling racing video game.
Daniel Puig, one of the stars of the CW’s DC series, NoemieJosha Stradowski (Amazon wheel of time) and the German actor Thomas Kretschman, who we will see in the next IndianaJones movie, also jumped into the fast lane for the movie, which is already shooting in Hungary.
David Harbor and Archie Madekwe star in the production, which also has Orlando Bloom and Darren Barnett on the call. Neill Blomkamp, best known for his science fiction films such as District 9 and Elysiumdirected.
With a screenplay by Jason Hall (American sniper) and Zach Baylin (King Richard) and based on a true story, the project is described as the ultimate teenage wish-fulfillment tale Gran Turismo player whose gaming skills have earned him a series of Nissan competitions to become a true professional racing driver. Madekwe plays the teenager while Harbor is a retired driver teaching him to drive.
Hounsou and Halliwell-Horner play the teenager’s parents while Puig is his brother. Stradowski is a rival driver with Kretschmann playing his father.
Asad Qizilbash and Carter Swan of PlayStation Production, Doug Belgrad and Dana Brunetti are producing. Game creator Kazunori Yamauchi and Hall serve as executive producers.
Sony Pictures will release the film in theaters on August 11, 2023.
Two-time Oscar-nominated actor Hounsou recently appeared in A Quiet Place Part II. We’ll see it next year Shazam! Fury of the gods and recently wrapped filming Zack Snyder rebel moon. He is replaced by CAA, Safran and Sloane Offer.
Tourism marks a very rare narrative screen appearance for Halliwell-Horner, the English singer and songwriter who rose to prominence in the 1990s as Ginger Spice, a member of girl group the Spice Girls. The pop group has sold over 100 million records and become the best-selling girl group of all time. The casting makes sense, however, as Halliwell-Horner’s husband is a former racer and now Red Bull Formula 1 team manager. Halliwell-Horner is also an aspiring author, having recently secured a two-book deal with Scholastic (UK) and Penguin (US) for a children’s adventure series titled Rosie Frost and the Falcon Queen. It is replaced by CAA and Untitled.
Stradowski is replaced by Favor Talents, Subtitle Talent and Range Media Partners. Puig is replaced by CESD, Authentic Talent and Literary Management and Jackoway Austen. Kretschmann is replaced by APA, Myman Greenspan and commercial director Dan Rivero.
