Book lovers have long been able to access materials from the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh online through its Overdrive and Libby apps. Now, borrowers across the region, including those with CLP, have a new app.

Since March 29, borrowers can download a new free mobile application, described as helping Allegheny County Library patrons access their library account, search for catalog materials, and make reservations while on the go. Available through Google Play and the Apple Store, the app allows users to search the Allegheny County Library System made up of 46 independent public libraries, including CLP branches and those in the West County region. Pennsylvania.

A statement says the app is a collaboration of all libraries in Allegheny County, with “representatives from across the county leading its development.”

“Convenience and functionality are key,” says Toby Greenwalt, CLP’s chief digital strategy officer. “The county’s new app is designed to give patrons one-stop access to library services while on the go, at work, or from the comfort of home.”

Once the app is downloaded, users can create a digital library card that can be used for document self-checking. In addition to searching for titles available at each participating library, there are also links to events, popular reads, and media resources, including eBooks and the RAD passan online ticket lending system that allows Allegheny County Library users ages 18 and older to access free or discounted tickets to regional arts and cultural attractions.

Parents will also have the option to link their child’s library card to theirs through the app.

The new app comes after the Allegheny County Library Association made a number of updates and improvements to improve its customers. The organization updated its website in 2021 and recently announced that late fees will no longer be charged at almost all of its branches.
